How to become a positive person!

“Being positive”– this phrase is thrown out and about a lot in modern world, but what does it really mean to you? Do you think of yourself as a positive person or do you have a negative overall outlook on life? Please read on if you are interested in how to be more positive in everyday life.

  1. I recommend keeping a diary- write a detailed amount for each day, stating what happened, what you did- what were the highlights of your day? That one thing you were worrying about facing all week went much better than you were expecting? Well write all about it. Don’t forget to add emotion to your writing. This will help you in the future, being able to look back and appreciate the little things alongside key events.
  2. If a negative thought pops into your head, ( which of course it is likely to at some point), really think about, don’t push it to the side straight away. Try to analyse it- why are you thinking in this way- are you trying to mask another emotion? It is important to let your emotions be felt. If you can, try to replace it with a sweet thought, perhaps flipping the situation on its head. If you believe in a religion think about what the holy book says or one of the teachings for instance: what would God have done in your situation? If you aren’t religious- then think about what the right action is, by how your family or other role models behave.
  3. Try not to be self absorbed, its all about balance, you don’t need to end up completely selfless either- but of course it is best to think of others before yourself, (however only to a certain extent). Ask your friends about things in their life, are they ready for the test they have later? How’s their little sister- is she feeling better? Remember to show them you appreciate them and their work, it could make their day!
  4. Smile! It should help you to feel more positive, and you will be remembered as “the girl who is always smiling!” Much better than “the negative egoistic one”, right?
  5. Be grateful for the thing you do have, especially the essentials; warmth, clothing, clean water, food, internet access! You could even try to give back to the community, donate some clothes to the local charity shop, or go and volunteer with the elderly- which will also help you to learn more about life.
  6. Forgiveness! If someone does wrong by you, try to sort things out, even if you just agree to be civil. It can be very awkward if working alongside each other as classmates and throwing the word “hate” around. It is likely to only make things worse and nobody needs that! So be nice, work hard, be the best you there is!
